A $99 iPhone? It could be coming this summer

I'm not sure that this is the smartest marketing plan - they need Steve Jobs back. It'll essentially lower the price of all Apple products. I don't think the growth of sales of the "knock off" iPhone is going to justify the net loss. This ploy, if successful, will probably only help AT&T and iPod complement goods. The article states a real concern - the exclusivity is a huge draw to the iPhone. The base of Apple consumers want the best - not the one that is going to limit them.
Apparently they are no longer targeting the average Apple consumer - expanding to the masses. This is a huge risk but if any company has the potential of taking a risk and coming out ahead, it's Apple. I have to admit the idea that they are coming out with 2 different versions is pretty sneaky. I would say that if they were only coming out with the 99$ one, that would alienate the loyal Apple consumer. However, coming out with 2 different ones, in this economy, they might just have all the factors necessary.... sneakilicious.
